Ride Review – 2011 Hamilton Hill-Aceous 100

Readyforplanb.com ride review for the 100k Hamilton Hill-Aceous 2011

This ride was just one week after the Shiner GASP but with goal #1 on my journey to plant based cyclist accomplished I was feeling really strong and wanted to get out there and go for it.  Year to date I had logged 1,925 miles and was down 16.1 pounds.

I did the 2 hour and 15 minute drive down to Hamilton from Dallas the morning of the ride.  It was manageable but I suspect it is just far enough that it keeps some folks away.  The start was at a little air strip just south of Hamilton and we were surprised to be greeted by a pretty brisk wind blowing out of the north.  Brisk doesn’t happen very often in May in Texas, but we were grateful for it!

Ride Review – 2011 Shiner GASP (Great Austin to Shiner Pedal)

Readyforplanb.com ride review for the 100 mile 2011 Shiner GASP (Great Austin to Shiner Pedal)

This ride was really special for me because I was able to do it with Jen, my two brothers and my riding buddy Ryan.  This was also a goal that all of us had taken on at the start of the year and Goal #1 on my way to plant based cyclist!  Year to date heading into the Shiner GASP I had logged 1,777 miles, I was down 15.6 pounds and I felt great.

With Austin as the backdrop we had an easy decision to turn this ride into an entire weekend of fun.

Despite the large number of riders, the roll-out was very smooth as we all had plenty of room. The rest stops were well stocked and the volunteers were a huge help.  Most of the route was on very quiet country roads, rolling over gentle hills.  There was only one section that was awful and that was due to some road work that was ongoing and should be cleaned up by 2012.
